Definition
The capability to detect and correct divergence between AI-assisted execution and original human intent. Drift occurs when AI outputs gradually shift away from what the human approved — without anyone noticing.
Why It Matters
AI systems optimise for their objective function, not for evolving human intent. Execution drift is silent and cumulative. By the time it is visible, the gap between what was intended and what happened is typically large — and expensive to reverse. Organisations without Execution Drift Control do not discover problems; they inherit them.
What teams do about this
When Execution Drift Control breaks down, teams show Learning dropping (not noticing gradual divergence from original intent), Resilience declining (correction fatigue sets in), and Engagement falling (teams stop caring whether AI outputs still match the original purpose).
